Stress does not always stay in the mind. It can show up in the body as tight shoulders, a stiff neck, jaw tension, headaches, shallow breathing, restlessness, or a feeling that you are always “on.”
Many people in Boulder live active and busy lives. Work, screens, family responsibilities, exercise, travel and everyday demands can make it difficult to slow down. Sometimes even when you finally have time to rest, your body does not seem to know how to let go.
This is where therapeutic bodywork can provide a space to slow down and reconnect with your body.
Everyone experiences stress differently. You may notice:
Tightness in the neck and shoulders
Jaw or facial tension
A restless or overactive feeling
Difficulty settling down at night
Muscle soreness or stiffness
Tension in the upper back
Feeling physically tired but unable to relax
Difficulty taking a deep, comfortable breath
A general feeling of being overwhelmed or “wound up”
Stress and physical tension can also become a cycle. When the body stays tense, it can become harder to feel calm. When you are under stress, you may unconsciously tighten your muscles even more.
My approach is not simply about giving you the same massage every time.
I take time to understand how you are feeling that day and where you are carrying tension. I then tailor the therapeutic Ayurvedic bodywork to your needs, using techniques such as warm oil massage, focused therapeutic work, head and neck massage, and other Ayurvedic approaches when appropriate.
The intention is to create a deeply restful experience while working with areas of muscular tension and physical discomfort.
Relaxation and rest
Releasing muscular tension
A calmer body after periods of stress
Greater awareness of where you hold tension
Comfort in the neck, shoulders and back
A sense of restoration after a demanding week
For many people, stress collects around the head, neck, shoulders and jaw.
A therapeutic session can give special attention to these areas rather than treating the whole body in exactly the same way every time. Head massage and Ayurvedic oil massage can be incorporated when appropriate.
If you spend many hours at a computer, carry physical tension in your shoulders, or notice that you clench your jaw when stressed, tell me before your session so I can understand what you are experiencing.
Sometimes what the body needs is not another task or another thing to accomplish.
A therapeutic massage gives you dedicated time to step away from your normal routine, put down the phone, slow down and give your body attention.
My goal is to provide individualized therapeutic Ayurvedic bodywork that supports deep rest, relaxation and physical ease.
